Destin "Final Days"

Hannah and I enjoyed our last couple of days in Destin. On Friday, we spent hours at the beach and soaked up the glorious sunset. On Saturday, we spent more time at the pool and did a little last minute shopping. It was all good! Our drive home was uneventful, except for the storm clouds and torrential rains that followed us much of the way! We can't thank Brian enough for letting us stay at his beach home. It was a wonderful week in a wonderful setting!

New Digital Scrapbook!

Hannah used this digital scrapbook site for a class project. Now I've taken a couple of our Destin pictures and created one of my own!

Destin "Day 6"

Loaded down with buckets (for castlebuilding), a cooler (for a mid-day snack), a beachbag, chairs, and an umbrella, Hannah and I made our way through the foot-deep sand to bask in the warm sun off the Gulf of Mexico. Not many people were in the water, although a few brave souls ventured out. No question about it; there are jellyfish in the Destin waters! Hannah and I watched as people, young and old, scurried out of the water after being stung. After building a huge castle-complex, I made a rather quick dash into the water to rinse off and got a little sting on the back of my leg. It wasn't terrible, but it did continue stinging for a while. So far, we had only seen the little jelly pieces like we saw yesterday. Suddenly, we saw a large jellyfish bobbing about in the surf. Just a few minutes later, another one came into view. Now these wouldn't give a slight sting; these boys would hurt! Hannah doesn't want to give up yet. We're going to give it another try tomorrow. Hopefully the jellies will move on and we can reclaim our space both in and out of the water.

Extra Photos from Day 5

Here are a few extra photos. The one that looks like protozoa is a closeup of a jelly fish in the sand. Read on for today's blog....

Beach Trip "Day 5"

Hannah's a lot like me and feels that we should be on the beach if we're at the beach. But today, we decided to steer clear of ocean water when we heard that the jelly-like substances we kept seeing yesterday were in fact pieces of jelly fish -- stinging jelly fish! Instead we bought batteries for the camera, went to the outdoor mall, and ate dinner at Chili's. We loved The Zoo Gallery! They have such unique and artsy items there. Although I had my eye on a $3,800 whimsical cabinet and several interesting pieces of art, we left with a pair of earrings and a bracelet for Hannah. We got to the beach at sunset and enjoyed a walk along the shore. Hannah saved a few tiny fish and we looked at the jelly-bellies that had washed up on shore.

Beach Trip "Day 4"

When Craig, Hannah, and I were in Destin last year, we ate at Pompano Joe's, a colorful little beachside restaurant that lies directly in between the condo and the ocean. Today, Hannah and I made a return visit and even ordered the same items from the menu that we had enjoyed so much last year. For Hannah, that meant a tuna melt like the one Craig had ordered. For me, it was a shrimp sandwich. Both meals came with pineapple cole slaw and fries. We were seated on the extended (and narrow) deck that juts out over the beach, which gave us uninterrupted views of beach life -- from the parasailing to the multi-colored umbrellas that dotted the shoreline. With our tummies full, we enjoyed several hours on the beach, both in and out of the water. Hannah rode the waves in on her boogie board over and over and over again! We both played in the waves, and I found time to relax in the chair with the waves lapping near my feet. A dip in the pool and a shower later had us ready for a quick run to Wings. Hannah bought a beautiful necklace and earrings and a friendly inflatable dolphin to play with tomorrow at the beach.

Our Blog Spot (aka spot for blogging)

Here's a shot of Hannah in our typical blog spot. This is part of the living room here at the condo. Read below for Beach Trip (Day 3).

Beach Trip "Day 3"

Today was a little busy for us beach bums. Before heading to the beach, we went by Silver Sands to check out the deals. Then we shopped for groceries. We decided to save Pompano Joe's for another day. By the time we got to the beach, the sky was overcast, which made the ocean breeze that much more refreshing. Both Hannah and I played in the surf (well, she played while I got knocked around bythe waves) and watched the students at "surf school" hang 10. We even created a couple of sand sculptures (a sea turtle and fish in case you can't tell) to add that special touch to our spot on the beach.

Beach Trip "Day 2"

This is officially our second day at the beach, but it's really our first full day here. We had great weather today and enjoyed several hours at the beach. Although the purple flag was flying (marine pests in the area), we only saw tiny fish swimming around. The water was clear and was a beautiful shade of blue/green. After a short break back at the condo, we returned to the beach for more fun in the surf. Gray clouds and a boom of thunder hurried us home, but the storm never hit. Tomorrow we're planning to eat lunch at Pompano Joe's, then head to the beach for the afternoon.

Beach Trip (Day 1)

We made it to Florida! Hannah couldn't wait to splash in the ocean, so we unpacked the car and made it to the beach before it got too late. We're heading back to the beach today! Here's a photo from yesterday.

Life

What is life

but a series of events
disconnected and connected --
from mundane moments
to those that change your life forever.

A single day may not seem like much...
splashing in a pool
sharing some minute slice of life.

Yet wrapped together these moments
become the tapestry of life...
colorful, strong,
gently-woven memories.
