Telephoto Tuesday: Flower Circles

I still haven't decided on photo editing software for my desktop
but thought I'd share these images I created using
the percolater app on my iPhone.

The original photo was of a Sunflower I shot last summer.
And this... a Hibiscus.

I love the bright colors and the polka dots.
Really.

Happy Tuesday!

Telephoto Tuesday

Even with this being a three-day weekend, it was crazy busy, and I stayed up late, again, to get things done. Well, maybe surfing education Web sites and updating my blog weren't exactly what I needed to be doing at 11:30 last night, but it was fun anyway. And I did find some great ideas on the Teaching Channel.

I also spent some time tonight uploading photos from my iPhone. I had more than 2,000 photos, and my memory was getting low depleted. That's when I noticed this one, which somehow managed to stay put in my phone until now.

I'm no food photographer, but I loved this big fat eggplant a coworker gave me, and I love this dish, so I thought they would look good together. I guess this is a throwback Telephoto Tuesday, though, since I posted this on Instagram back in the summer when the eggplant was still intact.

Happy Tuesday!

Telephoto Tuesday

If it's antique or vintage or just plain old, I usually have a place for it in my heart and sometimes in my home. Like the quilts I bought when I first got married. Old and tattered but still useable. Their softness created from years of use. Old typewriters and their ribbon tins. A Victrola. Handbags and hats. Jewelry. Aprons.

But on Saturday something else found its way into my heart. And home. This old Ball mason jar with a zinc lid and practically brimming over with colorful bobbins of thread. Blue, green, and purple. Perfectly me. So I bought it and carried it home.

And unwrapped it. And gave it its own little photoshoot.

My bobbin jar wasn't the only thing that caught my eye although I did practice restraint when it came to buying anything else. There was a Royal typewriter, which was royally priced at about $170.00. Rolling pins (yep, I have a few of those, too), and photographs that I may go back for.

It was fun poking around old things again. So, how did you spend your Saturday?

Telephoto Tuesday: They Can't Stand Still

these girls! Even here, in this picture, they're a bit blurry. These are some of the girls on my daughter's volleyball team. They've bonded so much this year. They've won some, and lost some, but overall have gotten stronger with each match.

Confession: A student took this photograph. I wish that I had. I'm thinking about getting the girls to let me take some fun photos of them. Hopefully, they will.

Telephoto Tuesday

We just spent a great weekend with friends. Ate delicious food, strolled around two beautiful cities, and even took in a Boston concert while we were there. (Now that took me back a few years!).

When I saw this car, I thought I was in another country. Monaco maybe.
I thought it had a regal look to it with all that chrome and shiny black.
And the bird on the hood.

The car wasn't the only thing that caught my attention.
There were plenty of bikes around with this being a college town and all.

Before we left, we went by our friend's dad's house.
It's really just a two room cottage he created out of a garage.
You'd never know a car had ever invaded that space though.
It's that cute.

Outside, he had created an amazing bed of sunflowers.

It really was a great trip. I tend to be a homebody and a book worm,
but thankfully my husband makes plans like these to get me out into the world.
He's good about things like that.

Tomorrow's the 4th of July!
I think we're ready to celebrate.

Blooming...

Just saying...
Maybe it IS your time to bloom!
I just finished reading one of those books that are just perfect for the beach.
You know the kind... Not a heavy read, something a little more fun and frivolous.
But it did get me thinking.... (shouldn't all books do that?).

The book, Jude Deveraux's "The Summerhouse," features three women
who all live different lives.
And then they get to choose a time in their lives to relive
and can even change the choices they made.
Rewind and start over.

We don't get to do that of course, you and I,
and I'm guessing that even if we could, we wouldn't change things.
But maybe, just maybe, we get too caught up in what has to be done each day,
and we forget what really brings us joy.

Our passions.
For art,
writing,
photography,
cooking,
or even moving
our furniture around.

Believe me, I DO make time for a lot of the fun things in life.
But there have been times in my life when I didn't do those things.
I wasn't writing, or drawing, or taking pictures of things that make me smile.

So, words of advice gleaned from Jude Deveraux's summer read:

Don't forget who you are.
Remember to enjoy what makes you, you.
and Bloom!

Telephoto Tuesday

a little lizard happened by
and got right in my way
i had to snap his photograph
before he rushed away
oh, what fun to look around
and see what nature brings
from bright green lizards on my deck
to birds that like to sing

Telephoto Tuesday

While many of you were enjoying the feeling of Autumn several weeks ago, the season of colorful leaves and crisp, cool weather was, as usual, slow to arrive in my home state. Yet, suddenly, there it was. Fall! The cool weather lured me outside and to the nearby river where I caught the light and its shadows dancing among the silvery ripples.
