Have you ever fallen in love...

with someone you just couldn't have? Years ago, during a college astronomy class, I fell head over heels in love with the constellation, Orion. That gallant hunter who fills part of the winter sky with his presence....

At the time, young and working my way through college, I felt a connection with Orion. I considered him a guardian watching over me. Even now with the passage of time, I find myself waiting for that first glimpse of him during late fall and early winter. Soon, he will be gone again, watching over someone else in another part of the world. But I know that as soon as the nights lengthen across the shadows of day, he'll be back to watch over me. And I'll send another kiss his way.

I wrote the poem during college and remember it still.

We LOVE Orion. Him and Venus. Caitlin and I look for them whenever we have clear skies. As a kid I used to think he and the moon were following me in the car.

Great post. Laurel loves the moon and stars so I've been trying to brush up on my astrology so I can actually tell her what we are looking at.

I so enjoy reading your posts. You always have such interesting thoughts and a great outlook on life.

Oh, I'm sure your students did great on the writing test. I hope you enjoy teaching some fun literature and poetry and all that good stuff. That was my favorite part of teaching Language Arts.

OMG...I love Orion. I look upon that constellation almost every night. Funny, I don't really know why...but it comforts me.

the one thing that almost killed me when I had to come live in London was the fact that one cannot go to the beach and sit warching the night skies.
Almost every city I lived in had that possibility.

And I remember my overwhelming feeling when Sarita, aged two, would be fascinated by the moon and night skies ... :)

beautiful writing skills, yours, love this.
