I wanted to create my very own heading, but it doesn't quite fit the space. The original heading shows through on one side, while the new heading extends a little too far on the right. Hmmm. Anyway, here's the header... posted here instead!

I wish I could help you with customizing this header but I am only a beginner at blogging and taking baby steps at the moment.

You might check out this article at http://betabloggerfordummies.blogspot.com/2006/11/how-to-customize-your-header.html It explains how to 'nudge' the header over to where you want it by changing the margin px. Hope this helps--you did such a beautiful job!
